Altos d'olivia, gran reserva 2007

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon / Tempranillo / Garnacha
ABV: 14%
Style: Big, robust
Vintage: 2007
Wine-maker:  Elias Gil

A family-run winery with 25 hectares of their own vineyard and sourcing fruit from other quality growers. Previously a high-end bulk producer, the winery now makes smaller parcels of carefully blended genuinely old wines. The wine spends 7 months in stainless steel tanks with successive racking before being transferred to American Oak for 36 months.

Set in the ‘high lands’ of Cataluna above the River Ebro, just south of Priorat, the area has a Mediterranean climate with a continental influence.  Very old vines, result in low yields and high quality. Ripe grapes are produced more consistently and economically in this area than anywhere in Cataluna.

The wine is burgundy-coloured with good depth. Rich and varied nose with complex aromas of jam and forest fruits, blackberry and redcurrant against a subtle spicy backdrop of vanilla, bay and pepper. Full bodied and full flavoured with high quality tannins. Long finish with hints of tobacco and toast.

And you won't believe the price, but it's true!
