Grapes: Pinot Grigio
Style: Off-dry, refreshing
This is one of the nicest Pinot Grigios we've tasted at this price point.
Full-bodied and well balanced, with a fruity bouquet. This is an elegant, soft and off-dry white wine with excellent flinty minerality. Clear, bright and very fresh.
Enjoy this wine with pasta dishes, white meats or fish. Serve chilled, but not too cold to get the full flavour of the fruit.
We stock 3 great wines from Cortefresca so if you are a fan of theirs, you should check out the Cortfresca Rose and Cortefresca Merlot.
Is Pinot Grigio the same as Pinot Gris?
Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris come from the same grape variety. Where they differ typically stems from where they are produced. With Pinot Gris commonly produced in France, and Pinot Grigio produced in Italy. You may not think that would make a difference, but the different climate, soil and processes produce a different tasting wine. Pinot Grigio is typically lighter, crisp and citrusy, Pinot Gris sweeter with more tropical fuit flavours.
What makes a good Pinot Grigio?
At Affordable Wine we always say, if it is a wine you like, it is a good wine. We don't like to be too stuffy about what is and isn't a good wine, it all comes down to the opinion of the drinker. For us, a good Pinot Grigio is light, fresh, a served cold. Its flavour shouldnt be overly strong, but nor should it be non-existent. The Cortefresca Pinot Grigio absolutely hits the spot on these measures.
Is Pinot Grigio a Cheap Wine?
"Cheap" gives the impression of poor quality. Cheap is also relative to the person judging. If you are accustomed to paying £20 for a bottle of wine, then you may consider a lot of Pinot Grigio cheap. If you are looking for something in the £5 range then you might consider some Pinot Grigio expensive. At Affordable Wine we like to offer a range of wines, priced keenly without sacrificing quality. At the current price we consider the Cortefresca to be a great option for those looking for an affordable Pinot Grigio.
