Grapes: 100% Pinot Noir
Style: Off-dry, Medium-bodied, rich and smooth
If we had to explain this wine in one line, it would be: A ripe savoury Pinot Noir showing tremendous regional and varietal character.
The Plateau Pinot Noir is a very New World style with typically varietal black cherry aromas along with dark berry and cherry flavours backed up with ripe, smooth
tannins and a long finish. This is a food-friendly style that will benefit from cellaring for up to 6 years. It is the perfect companion to roast duck, robust salmon dishes and in general is a verstaile match for many rich foods.
The Sileni Vineyards and Winery are based near Hastings, Hawke’s Bay - the oldest wine region in New Zealand - on the east coast of the North Island. It has a southern latitude of 39° and a climate similar to that of some of the great wine regions of the world.
Regional Vineyard Manager Ritchie Garnham oversees the management of 106 hectares of Estate vineyards, as well as 50ha of managed fruit supply. He leads a small crack team of five to ensure vineyard operations are done in an efficient manner. Their understanding of grape growing and commitment to providing the best fruit forms the basis of the Sileni wine quality. The area can be considered one of the new best regions to produce world-class Pinot Noir wines.
This can be observed through the numerous awards this wine has received over the last few years including the prestigious Decanter World Wine Awards 2013 - Bronze award for the 2011 vintage. Jancis Robinson has written about The Plateau in glowing terms. This has to be one of the best wines coming out of Hawkes Bay at the moment!
